Tax Refund Procedures

Starting November 1, 2026, Japan's consumption tax exemption system for foreign tourists and other visitors will be completely revised, shifting from the current "instant discount at the counter" method to a "refund" method.
Under the tax-free refund system, travelers will first pay the "tax-included price" at the store, and the consumption tax amount will be refunded after the goods are verified at airport customs upon departure.
